Contributing to Society by Providing High-Caliber Professionals
In the 21st Century, technology is advancing faster than ever before and postgraduate education and training is becoming crucial to meeting the level of sophistication required to continuously enhance the quality of life and create new cultures and lifestyles. Furthermore, as the most problems we encounter in real life today become increasingly complex, spanning a number of fields which have thus far been considered unrelated to each other, solutions now call for collaboration between various experts across conventional boundaries. Against this backdrop, Tokyo University of Technology has recently consolidated its postgraduate programs into one graduate school emphasizing interdisciplinary study: the Graduate School of Bionics, Computer and Media Sciences. Permeating these three most exciting fields of today’s science and technology are the keywords “information” and “entrepreneur spirit.” Thus, in pursuing its aim to provide industry with high-caliber professionals who have the practical skills and expert knowledge that meet the needs of society, Tokyo University of Technology not only capitalizes on its traditional strength in information technology but also brings business sense into its postgraduate program.

The Program
To fully implement the goal mentioned above, Tokyo University of Technology offers three technology-oriented courses in the graduate school ― the Bionics Course, the Computer Science Course and the Media Science Course, leading both to master’s and doctor’s degrees. In addition, for the master’s program, it offers the more business-oriented Entrepreneur Course, which trains students in a variety of business subjects, ranging from accounting and intellectual property management to strategic planning and marketing. The first three courses are designed to expand on the solid basis of science and technology acquired in their respective undergraduate studies and to help students conduct creative research with practical results. The Entrepreneur Course focuses on building up the spirit and skills to transform technology into business ― in other words, starting up a venture business based on innovative technology. Furthermore, to provide an environment which fosters a competitive mindset through external stimuli, Tokyo University of Technology invites applicants for the Graduate School from outside its undergraduate campus.
