Bionics Program/solid state chemistry, material chemistry, surface science

Research content
The aims of our group are the fabrication of novel functional materials, e.g., 1) new bioceramics with self-reparation like living things, 2) thin films for electronic devices with various electronic properties, etc., by highly controlling chemical bonding states and surface structures. The development of eco-friendly processes as well as the generation of new functional materials is important for sustainable engineering. We are studying the reactive processing with highly reactive species generated in the reaction field. E.g., both new biomaterial thin films and photocatalytic thin films have been fabricated at room temperature by the electrochemical oxidation process developed by our group. New composites with both plural metals and plural anion species are also under study to develop new highly functional electronic materials. Emphasis is placed both on the spectroscopic studies using X-ray and on the first-principle theoretical calculations to clarify chemical bonding states, crystal structures, chemical states, etc., of the fabricated materials and to design new functional materials.
Research theme

1. Research on development of sustainable room-temperature processes
2. Fabrication of novel composite thin films with plural anion species and their dielectric, electronic, photocatalytic, and biocompatible characteristics
3. Chemical state analysis of functional materials based on the X-ray spectrometry and the first principle theoretical calculation
