Research content
This laboratory on water environment is conducting the researches especially focused on the microbial activity. Especially, I focus on the three topics towards “sound water environment” First, spread of the antibiotic resistant bacteria has become one of the most serious problem in the all over the world. Our laboratory has conducted the periodic surveillances about the prevalence of the antibiotic resistant genes in the water environment by using molecular technics. Second, from the viewpoint of the natural purification potential, we have researched the distribution and the characteristics of the nitrifiers in the water environment. Our laboratory conducts the research especially about the microbial community of ammonia oxidizing bacteria (AOB) and susceptibility of AOB against the antibiotics. Finally, we try to develop the effective utilization of waste activated sludge on the agriculture from the view point of the sustainable society.
Research theme

1. Prevalence of the antibiotic resistant genes in the water environment
2. Nitrifier (ammonia oxidizing bacteria) in the water environment
3. Effective utilization of the activated sludge on the agriculture
