Three Policies of Graduate School of Engineering

Admissions Policy of the Graduate School of Engineering

The school seeks individuals who demonstrate a heightened motivation to study and research advanced engineering theories and technologies (sustainable engineering) that can contribute to the construction of a sustainable society based on the basic philosophy of the University, and who aim to become practical professionals with advanced research skills through personal growth. Candidates will have acquired a broad knowledge, global thinking, they will possess a heightened sense of humanity, high ethical standards, and fertile creativity, and will be willing to work independently and proactively to contribute to technological progress and to the construction of a sustainable society.

Curriculum Policy of the Graduate School of Engineering

The Department of Sustainable Engineering in the Graduate School of Engineering emphasizes education and research to develop human resources capable of contributing to the improvement of the quality of life, the development of technology and a sustainable society in accordance with the basic philosophy of the University. The educational program is designed to develop human resources with broad knowledge who think globally, who demonstrate a heightened sense of humanity, high ethical standards, fertile creativity, advanced professional skills, advanced communication skills, logical thinking, analytical and evaluation skills, and problem-solving abilities. The educational program consists of a Master's program and a Doctoral program. Specifically, courses will be conducted and instruction given in accordance with the following policies.

  • Department of Sustainable Engineering Master's Program
    In addition to building on bachelor's program studies and acquiring a wide range of specialized knowledge in the research fields of the student’s major, the curriculum is designed to facilitate cross-disciplinary studies allowing students to go beyond the limitations of the methodologies etc. used in the faculties at the bachelor's level, and acquire broader academic knowledge and more diverse skills.

    Through instruction on creative research and cross-disciplinary project research, students will be trained to become practical professionals with advanced research skills and the ability to promote creative research, present and explain research results and their significance, acquire advanced logical thinking, analysis and evaluation skills, problem-solving abilities, and a sense of ethics in academic research.
  • Department of Sustainable Engineering Doctoral Course
    This program fosters researchers who, in addition to acquiring a broad range of specialized knowledge and skills in their field of research, possess the ability to discover problems for creative research, formulate research plans, promote their research, present and explain research results and their significance logically, and possess advanced analytical and evaluation skills, problem-solving abilities, and high ethical standards.

    The Department strives to nurture researchers capable of interdisciplinary thinking who can actively engage in research exchange and joint research with researchers in other fields. Finally, it aims to foster a pioneering spirit inspired by the ability to think globally to boldly take on the challenge of research in unexplored fields and cultivate the ability to critically and logically analyze and solve problems to determine whether the purpose and significance of research are in line with the basic principles of the University and whether it can contribute to the construction of a sustainable society.

Diploma Policy of the Graduate School of Engineering

  • Department of Sustainable Engineering Master’s Program
    To qualify for a degree, students must be enrolled in the School for a specified period of time, take class subjects that are in line with the educational and research philosophy of the School, earn a minimum of required credits, and complete the course by passing the examination for the master's thesis conducted by the School.

    Students are required to possess a broad range of specialized knowledge and skills in sustainable engineering, advanced communication, logical thinking, analytical and evaluation skills, and finally, problem-solving abilities befitting a practical professional with excellent research skills.
  • Department of Sustainable Engineering Doctoral Course
    Students must be enrolled in the Department for the prescribed period of time, conduct research in accordance with the philosophy and objectives of education and research in sustainable engineering, and pass the doctoral dissertation examination and final examination within the prescribed year. In order to be conferred a doctoral degree, students must be able to conduct research independently and have the ability to plan, promote, and present the results of high-level creative research, as well as the knowledge and skills that form the basis of such research.
