An interdisciplinary research environment that consolidates four master’s programs across cutting-edge fields.

The Graduate School aims to impart advanced, practical knowledge and abilities through interdisciplinary research in the are free to flexibly study subjects in other master’s programs, with a view to acquiring crossdisciplinary knowledge and persfields of bionics, computer and media sciences, and to foster human resources endowed with practical business skills. To this end, the Graduate School is composed of four master’s programs: the Master’s Program in Bionics, the Master’s Program in Computer Science, the Master’s Program in Media Science (each comprising a Master’s Program and a Ph.D. Program), and the Master’s Program in Entrepreneurship (comprising a Master’s Program). Students pectives. In the Ph.D. Program, we nurture researchers endowed with research and development abilities in cutting-edge fields, and educators who are capable of conducting the highest levels of university education.

Features

A Curriculum that Utilizes the Features of Each Master’s Program

In the four Master’s Programs of the Graduate School, class subjects are conducted over eight-week quarters, making it possible to intensively and efficiently learn the diverse subjects of each program in a short time. Moreover, a group of generic skill courses has been created as elective compulsory subjects. These foster the general abilities of students.

Learning Support Systems

The TA (Teaching Assistant) system allows Graduate School students to earn a salary by assisting faculty members with experiments, practical training and seminars in the undergraduate schools. While many universities employ such a system as a means of deepening learning through teaching while offering support for tuition fees, in our Graduate School in particular timetables are coordinated with the schools in such a way that learning and research are not impeded, while also offering fair and suitable payment.

Curriculum Composition

In the Master’s Program in Entrepreneurship, the Master’s Program curriculum comprises required “basic subjects” (these can also be selected by students from other Master’s Programs), “specialized subjects” which are required for execution of task-oriented research, “generic skill subjects” which are intended to nurture the general skills demanded by the 21st Century, and “research project subjects” that provide the framework for research activities in each field. In each Master’s Program, students compile and present a master’s thesis as the culmination of two years of research. In the Master’s Program in Entrepreneurship, students can meet the completion requirements by compiling and presenting a business plan rather than a master’s thesis.

Three Policies

1) Policy for the Admittance of New Students

Admissions Policy

In light of the philosophy of this institution, we seek individuals who are motivated to tackle learning and research into advanced scientific principles or technologies with real world applications related to the bionics and information media fields. They must also have a desire to grow, and to become practical, high-level technicians or researchers. Such individuals should be willing to acquire international refinement, a rich sense of humanity, high ethical standards, and creativity, and desire to contribute to the building of asustainable society.

2) Curriculum Organization and Implementation Policy

Curriculum Policy

In addition to guiding the development of science and technology to contribute to the development of a sustainable society, with an emphasis on practical education and research, we also aim to develop human resources who are endowed with international refinement, a rich sense of humanity, high ethical standards, creativity, expertise, logical thinking, and advanced communication, analytical, evaluative and problem-solving abilities.

3) Diploma Conferral Policy

Diploma Policy

Conferral of diplomas in both the Master’s and Ph.D. programs is conditional on students being enrolled for the specified period on the course at the bionics and information media department. Completion of the program involves conducting research in accordance with the education and research ideals of each course, taking the designated class subjects, obtaining above the standard number of credits, and passing the examinations and Master’s/Ph.D. dissertation review in each program.
