Research content
Maintain integrity of genomic DNA is essential for all lives. However, genomic DNA is constantly damaged by various both endogenous and exogenous sources, such as ultra-violet light, reactive oxygen species, resulting in generation of DNA damage. If these DNA damages were not repaired or repaired inappropriate manner, it would cause cell death and tumorigenesis. To avoid these unfavored phenomena, cells have evolved a series of DNA repair machineries. DNA double-strand break (DSB) that can be generated by ionizing irradiation and some type of anti-tumor drugs is one of the most deleterious DNA lesions. In our laboratory, we are aiming for understanding DSB repair mechanisms in human cells and establishing novel radio-, chemo-therapy for cancers.

2. Dissecting DSB repair machinery specialized for transcriptionally active region
3. Identifying novel regulatory mechanism of DSB repair by post-translational modifications
