Research content
Polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs), bioplastics synthesized by microorganisms, have excellent biodegradability and are expected as key materials to solve environmental problems caused by plastics. Novel and efficient production systems for PHAs with excellent properties, as well as their degradability, are investigated by utilizing molecular biological and genetic engineering methods. Isolation for novel PHA-producing bacteria is another target of the study to biologically synthesize PHA from waste materials.

Research theme

・Efficient production of bioplastics
・Biodegradation of bioplastics in the environment
・Search for microorganisms which produce bioplastics from waste materials
