Research content
Eating is essential for sustaining life and also provides pleasure and opportunities for social connection. However, mismatches between appetite and eating behavior can occur, including an inability to eat despite a desire for food and continued eating in the absence of hunger or desire. Our laboratory investigates the effects of food temperature and composition, meal timing, ambient temperature, and physical activity on appetite, digestion and absorption, and hormonal responses. Physiological measurements, behavioral analyses, and epidemiological data are integrated to clarify the mechanisms regulating eating behavior and to determine the potential for modifying appetite and eating behavior.
