Tokyo University of Technology was founded as a single-faculty college with only the School of Engineering in 1986. Since then, it has perpetually evolved to meet societal demands, adding new faculties such as the first School of Media Science in Japan and the School of Bionics (now the School of Bioscience and Biotechnology). It has grown to become a comprehensive science and technology university with six faculties, a Department of Liberal Arts, and three graduate schools spanning two campuses: Kamata and Hachioji.
