Graduate computer science student receives Student Travel Award at WI-IAT 2022 international conference

Shuta Ito, a second-year master's student in the Department of Computer Science, Tokyo University of Technology Graduate School, received the Student Travel Award at the WI-IAT 2022 (The 21st IEEE/WIC/ACM International Conference on Web Intelligence and Intelligent Agent Technology) held in Canada in November 2022.

The international conference co-hosted by IEEE/WIC/ACM is an international forum that brings together researchers and practitioners from various fields to present, exchange ideas, and disseminate original research results with the aim of providing innovative and practical development experiences involving the research and application of Web Intelligence and Intelligent Agent technologies.

Ito gave a presentation at the ABCSS 2022 (The 7th International Workshop on Application of Big Data for Computational Social Science) workshop held during WI-IAT 2022. Hypergraphs, the subject of Ito's research, have been the focus of much attention in recent years, and his presentation in which he proposed an efficient algorithm was recognized as a significant contribution to the future of web science and data engineering fields, earning him the Student Travel Award.

Name of award: Student Travel Award
Recipient: Shuta Ito, 2nd-year master's student, Department of Computer Science, Tokyo University of Technology Graduate School (Affiliated Laboratory: Data Engineering Laboratory)
Research advisor: Takayasu Fushimi, Lecturer, Department of Computer Science, Tokyo University of Technology Graduate School
Title of presentation: Visualization and Extraction of Important Structural Changes via Dynamic Hypergraph Embedding
Research summary: Data structures called hypergraphs, which can efficiently represent relationships among multiple people or objects, such as co-authorship relationships in papers or joint development groups, have attracted much attention in recent years, and many research results have been reported in the fields of data engineering and machine learning. This study focused on hypergraphs whose structures change dynamically, and proposed an efficient and effective visualization (embedding) method.
